Hello, Altered Stories Ministry Family,

When you think of the word Father what comes to your mind? For some, a father has good connotations for others this word dredges up bad memories.

With that said what are good characteristics of a good Father?

The Bible says that a good Father puts God first and is the leader in his home. He does not provoke his children to wrath but brings them up in the discipline of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

A good Father can also keep his temper in check and shows the family in the home how to walk in God’s way. I know this is a high bar and that for many who read this, their father was a perfect example of how not to live.

If this is you my friend, let me first say I’m sorry, I know how much this can hurt.

Let me first admonish you to bring that hurt to your Heavenly Father, who is nothing like the man you had to deal with on Earth.

I am learning more and more just how different God our Father is compared to men.

God says that though my Father and Mother forsake me he will receive me. Psalm 27:10. Scripture also says that God sings over us, I still cannot picture that, but it is a good reminder of how much God our Father loves us.

This Father's Day, I encourage you to take some time to thank your dad for being a Father in your life. If you don’t have a dad, thank God your Father for acting in that role.
