Hello, Altered Stories Ministry Family.
I want to talk about a subject I shared with you in previous articles that we can never get enough of in our lives, the need for rest. In Matthew 11:28-30, our Lord says “…’Come to me, all you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light’” (NLT).
Jesus is not offering us the kind of rest where you set everything down and take a much-needed break. He offers us rest for our souls by surrendering our burdens to Him. If the Lord offers us the kind of rest, many times needed on a moment-by-moment basis, why do we not take Him up on His offer? If He offers to take our burdens upon Himself in exchange for His yoke, which is light, what causes us to hold back rather than take Him up on His trade? I often ask myself these questions.
Let’s face it, life throws us curve balls from left field many times. When we are in the thick of it, sometimes it’s like pulling teeth to see a way forward. God’s word offers us relief in Psalm 103 where we see He is compassionate toward us because He greatly loves us and has redeemed our lives from the pit. (See Ps. 103:4)
Take a moment, read these scriptures from Matthew 11:28-30 and Psalm 103. Open up the conversation by trading your burdens for His yoke (being closely connected). Daily, take some time to rest in Him, if not moment by moment.
God bless,
Teresa
