This month of March, we are going to look at what seems to be two competing natures of God, as he is both a Lion and a Lamb. You see this idea is all through the scriptures, both the one to judge, and the one to be judged for the sins of the world.
Both Old and New Testaments speak of him as a Lion, and that reminds us that he is King.
In the book of Revelation and in the book of Daniel, Chapter 7, you see a depiction of four living creatures. While some of the creatures may differ in what they are, or what they look like, in both instances you see one of the creatures being a Lion.
While some Christians believe these creatures are Angelic beings, others believe these are representations of the characteristics of Yahweh himself.
Yeshua Jesus appears to John in the very beginning of revelation in all his glory, and throughout the forth coming letters, you see him warning the churches, and stating over and over that he is coming quickly, and that his reward is coming with him.
So, with this as a backdrop, and I am by no means an expert in future prophecy or eschatology, what does Jesus being known as the Lion mean for you?
First if you look at Revelation he is depicted as the coming King, and judge.
He is known as the Lion of the tribe of Judah
As the coming King he is going to make war on all of his enemies and he will rule, and reign for 1000 years on the earth.
This coming Kingdom gives us a wonderful hope no matter what happens, no matter how dark things get, we have a Lion, who will fight for us, he is our King, and he will have the final word at the end of days.
This is what comes to mind when I think of my Lord as a Lion.
In my next upcoming blog, I will deal with him as the Lamb slain before the foundations of the world, and what that means for us today.
Until then,
God Bless!
