Hello, Altered Stories Family,
Today is March for Life, an annual rally and march against the practice and legality of abortion held in Washington D.C. This past week, we also observed Sanctity of Life Sunday, and I have a question for you.
What does it mean to be prolife, is it just that you are against abortion? Or could it mean something more?
The word gives us a hint in Deuteronomy 30:19. “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before your life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live.” (ESV)
God is the God of the living, not the dead, and he wants us to find a blessing in life, not joy in death.
The problem we see, aside from how political the question of life or death has become, is that we have a mandate to expand God’s kingdom, and that means, rejoicing in the things God rejoices in.
We should, yes, promote mothers and celebrate new life, but this also means in that promotion, we should come along side mothers, and help them deal with the circumstances around the birth of their new little one.
I know there are plenty of ministries who share the truth of life, but they also share the grace that is needed. As we consider honestly this issue, let us come alongside a new mother, who may be struggling, or donate to a ministry who is doing the hard work of balancing truth and grace.
The world so often knows what we are against, but how often do they know what we are for?
Let us expand his Kingdom in only the way we can, let us together choose life.
