Hello, Altered Stories Ministry Family,
Soon, we celebrate Memorial Day. When we think about this holiday, we think of cook outs, summertime and we are in full swing of time off from school, for those of us with kids.
However, what is this day about?
It is about our military troops and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, while fighting for our freedom. How many times have you sat and watched a military documentary or a good old fashion movie where stuff gets blown up, and it highlights our military?
One of the most recent movies I watched was called Hacksaw Ridge, about a man who rather than take up weapons, became a military medic during WWII. He put his own life at risk to save hundreds of others many of whom gave their lives in the conflict.
In the world, we see many who are called to war.
In the Bible, Gideon who was told by God to only select a certain number of troops to win the battle. Joshua who was commanded to fight against Jehricho, but only after going around the walls seven times. David was asked by God regularly to attack this group or that group, and even at one point, only attack after he hears a certain sound.
Basically, the word is very pro-war, if the war is just.
In John 15:13 our Lord says, “Greater love hath no one than this than to lay down one’s life for their friends.” So, there is plenty of backing for our troops from God’s word.
This Memorial Day let us remember to thank a soldier for their service, pray for them, and if we know someone who has lost a family member or friend, we need to give them some encouragement and pray for them.
God bless,
Teresa
