I was a human trafficking victim for twenty years, starting at just six years old.

Now, I am sharing my story—insider information—to help you protect the vulnerable people in your community. I experienced trafficking in many forms over those two decades, and I survived for a reason. To tell you the truth about human trafficking, and to help you find your place in the solution to stopping it.

I believe God gave me this story and the ability to tell it for a reason, and He is not going to waste it. He is going to use my life to lead many people to true freedom.

I’ve been married to Robert, the love of my life, since 2003, and we enjoy exploring the Rocky Mountains of Colorado with our best furry friends, Cosmo and K9 Kanga.

In this Episode:

Sandy is an author and podcaster and has used her insider knowledge and experience to serve the counter-trafficking space as a trusted advisor, coach, and trainer for the military, medical, and educational professionals.
Some of the residue from the complex trauma of her past sometimes still bubbles up. She still has triggers, and she is still in therapy to learn how to overcome all of this. One of her healthy practices is spending a lot of time with her husband and dogs.
Sandy shares her “Jesus Set Me Free After Two Decades as a Trafficking Victim” God story.
She had several traffickers over a 20-year period because these traffickers are looking to target vulnerabilities.
If there are single moms in your communities, they are like our modern-day widows, and their kids are like orphans. That is your mission field, the widows and orphans in your community. They need help because without the umbrella of the church, they are vulnerable to predators.

She ran away from home at twelve years old to escape the abuse. She felt safer sleeping under a bridge. They would always place her back with her mother, and she would run away again.
It is very important that we tell the truth about this type of exploitation and trafficking, so that the community can be aware, expose the darkness, and hold these people accountable for their crimes.
At the end of two dark decades of exploitation, she was completely hopeless. She had these little drops of hope over and over.
Finally, there was no more escaping her circumstances. She was at rock bottom, so she went to talk to a local pastor. That day she gave her whole life to Jesus, and he immediately gave her a new life.
You will find Him in His Word, but then you will see Him everywhere. He will give you little God winks.
Disciple the women who might look a little messy. You are not going to make anybody perfect, but you are going to sow those seeds into them, and then you get to watch them bloom and grow. If all you have is prayer, that is so much.

“If I shine a light on that darkness and expose it, not only does it lose any power against me, but it also will help other people who might be able to make a difference to be aware that these crimes really do happen in suburban neighborhoods and places you might not expect. I want people to become aware and then empowered in what to do if they think that trafficking is happening in their community.” - Sandy Storm
